    1. We are looking for a Social Secretary for the club. This would be a non-committe role, but with the backing of the committee, with the role of organising social events for the club. No regular events need to be planned - just events as and when the Social Secretary wishes to organise. If you're interested please talk to Graham Potts.
    2. The next edition of the Burleigh News will be out shortly - please can you send any articles for inclusion in the News to Stan by 11th December.
    3. Please can you send to Shirley a list of any tournament placings and achievements over the summer for a summary in the club records and Burleigh News.
    Thank-you!

13th November 2005   Ashford Indoor Portsmouth
At the Ashford Indoor Portsmouth, despite bad arm pains which caused him to retire from the second session, Len Starling won the Third Place Award for the first Session, with a score only one point off his personal best. Wife Janet, Club Cake Captain, also shot well and scored just two points below her personal best.

8th November 2005   Ted Burnham - England Team Manager
Ted Burnham has been appointed Team Manager for the England senior team in 2006 - details to follow.

8th November 2005   Graham Potts aiming for Continental Judge Status
Graham Potts, not content with being nationally ranked (see below), and acting as Club Secretary, is also currently qualified as a National Judge. This means he is able to take charge as Senior Judge of any shoot in the UK, run under the auspices of GNAS, including World Record Status shoots.
The next level of Judging is Continental (European) which allows the individual to work at any European Event or Championship - including European Grand Prix events, Europa Cup for Juniors, and European Championships, Senior, Junior and Indoor. This is the stepping stone on the way to being a Full International Judge, allowing the individual to judge at World Championships and Olympic Games.
To qualify as a Continental Judge, Graham had to submit a CV and application form, which gave details of his work as a judge and generally within Archery (Organiser of the European Junior Championships 1999, Competition Manager World Junior Champs 2004, 10 years organising, with others, events such as the Junior National Championships.) From the applications received they have only taken twelve people, and it includes candidates from Russia, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, Greece and others - Graham is among that number!
The seminar is over the weekend, and includes a written and oral test. Applicants have to demonstrate a good working knowledge of the FITA rules, and of course show how to apply them, although there will not be a "on the field assessment". Graham is "looking forward to it, with intrepidation, as I really want to pass, because the ultimate goal is to judge the Olympic Games."
    Good luck Graham!
